Dr. Danielle Fastring is President-Elect of the Mississippi Public Health Association. She serves as the Director of Student Research and an Associate Professor of Preclinical Sciences in the College of Osteopathic Medicine at William Carey University. Dr. Fastring holds an undergraduate degree in Biology, and a Masters of Public Health degree with an emphasis in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, both from The University of Southern Mississippi. She earned a PhD in Epidemiology in 2012 from Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. During her time at Tulane, she was a Fellow in the Maternal Child Health Epidemiology Doctoral Training Program sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). She has been the Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator for numerous grant- funded projects focused on reducing health disparities by addressing upstream inequities related to the social determinants of health. Her research interests include health disparities that impact vulnerable populations in the state of Mississippi and the Gulf South Region. She is the independent evaluator for the Mississippi State Department of Health’s Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program and the Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation for WOMen Across the Nation (WISEWOMAN) Program.
